Independence Day Celebrations at Dolmen Malls #HamariPehchan

Dolmen Mall, Pakistan’s first international standard mall, is famous for being at the forefront of every major national celebration. With every event, they have continued to raise the bar when it comes to family entertainment and shopping in Karachi.

As our Independence Day approaches, we see the city changing itself to represent the colours of Pakistan, and Dolmen did not stay behind in giving its visitors a flavour of patriotism. This year, their theme, ‘Dolmen loves Pakistan’, was weaved around the concept of #HamariPehchan aimed at giving people a chance to celebrate Pakistan’s identity. Spanning across all three malls, namely Dolmen Mall Clifton, Dolman Mall Tariq Road and Dolmen Mall Hyderi, the event kicked off on 12th of August 2016.

“Living in a time where there is so much uncertainty and negativity surrounding our identity as a nation, we wanted to celebrate the achievements and entertainment aspects of Pakistan which we are known for. These things are relatable to the older as well as the younger generation of this country and they need to be celebrated. This is what makes us proud as Pakistanis,” said Anum Nadeem, Marketing Head of the Dolmen Group at the event.

A weekend worth of activities were executed in all its patriotic glamour and glory. For this, the mall was draped in shades of greens and whites. The walkways saw magnificent replicas of the country’s monuments. From live murals of national heroes to specially dressed guards standing and saluting the customers, the entire mall gave off 14 th August vibes. The main atrium was designed to take the mall-goers on a photographic journey through Pakistan and its rich culture. Adding to the desi feel, a dhaaba was set up by Chai Wala offering fresh parathas and chai for all those craving for a cup of tea, Pakistan’s undisputed favourite drink. Folk music and a special Azadi Bazaar selling flags, badges, and other patriotic merchandise set the right mood to the three-day event.

To mark the eve of Independence Day, a grandiose performance by Sounds of Kolachi dazzled the audience. The soulful music melted into the beautiful notes of our National Anthem at precisely 12 AM, amidst a shower of confetti while the guards raised the flag and saluted. The moment was breathtakingly beautiful.

On the same night, visitors at Dolmen Mall Tariq Road were enthralled to find Noori performing live and did not shy away from fully enjoying patriotic beats.

On the digital front, an instagram competition was hosted, allowing amateur photographers to showcase their talent. Top three photographs were selected and awarded with prizes. More prizes awaited all those who visited Dolmen wearing green. Shoppers and visitors were, thus, pleasantly surprised at various occasions.

As another successful event comes to an end, Dolmen stands tall and proud; the management determined to keep providing more quality events and celebrations to its visitors. Let’s wait to see what they have in store for the next event!

Activists in Pakistan Participate in Global Zero's Ride Around The Bomb Activity - #EliminateNukes #KeepUsSafe

In 25 Cities Worldwide, Thousands Rally against Nuclear Weapons on 71st Anniversary of Hiroshima and Nagasaki Bombings

More than 70 years later, nuclear weapons remain our greatest liability.

“Who will keep us safe?”

Marking the 71st anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, thousands of Global Zero activists will participate in a global day of action calling for an end to the nuclear threat.

Activists came together on August 6 2016 in different cities to remind world leaders that nuclear weapons were designed to wipe cities like ours off the map -- and they must be eliminated.

Activists from four major cities of Pakistan had tour/ride/hike in Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad and Islamabad, tracing the blast of a “small” nuclear weapon and highlighting the zone of devastation in which most injuries would be fatal, overwhelming any possible humanitarian relief efforts.

“We live in a world still recovering from cold war politics, and nuclear weapons are horrific relics of that time. We cannot afford to continue on this trajectory of clinging to outdated weapons that jeopardize our security every day. Whether by accident or design, entire cities could be erased in a matter of minutes, ending human civilization as we know it.” said Haneen Khalid, South Asia Field Organizer at Global Zero.

“A world in which our safety hangs in the balance is not a world we want to leave behind for future generations. The time to take action to protect our safety is now.”

In 25 cities around the world, including 4 in Pakistan, 3 in India, and 17 in the US, grassroots activists will demand action to eliminate all nuclear weapons everywhere as they “Ride Around the Bomb.” The demonstrations also come at a time when President Barack Obama, facing public pressure to live up to the nuclear commitments he outlined in Prague in 2009, is reportedly considering a series of executive actions to reduce the global nuclear threat, including a bold reform that would end U.S. policy permitting first use of nuclear weapons.

United For Healthier Kids For A Healthier Future Healthier Pakistan. #U4HKAajSe

Life is a mess  we all know that, but when it comes to health may it be ours or somebody we know, or our child's (I am not a wife yet) its very difficult to judge that what messy health we have or given to someone.

Nestlé Pakistan initiative United for Healthier Kids is a great step to spread the write word and thought and held a sneak peak of the movement for bloggers from Lahore. The movement aims to instill healthier habits in children.  It was launched at an event in Islamabad where various partners came together to pledge “Behter Kal, Aaj Se” – a better future for Pakistan’s children.

I was very excited and felt honored that I got the chance to be a part of this bloggers meet up event that took place in Pearl Continental, Lahore attendees were many Fancy Bloggers, Twitter Celebs and Media.

United for Healthier Kids is a behavior change movement for children aged 3-12 years, where partners such as Nestlé Pakistan, Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform, Lahore Grammar School, Jang Media Group, Geo Network, Service Sales Corporation, Silver Oaks School and Parwaan, among others. The movement aims to help parents establish healthier eating, drinking, and lifestyle habits in children through game-changing education and fun ideas to inspire action and influence behavior.

The nutritional and health conditions in Pakistan have reached an alarming level over the past decade. Currently, Pakistan has the third highest number of children suffering from stunted growth;
A Studies say that
  • 43.7% children in Pakistan have stunted growth.
  • 62% are severely anemic due to several reasons.
  • 54% children are not rehydrating themselves properly.
  • 31.5% are found to be underweight.

The United for Healthier Kids movement will work closely with its partner organizations to address three major behaviors –

Move More Sit Less- Child learns from home. If you are active enough than your child can be faster than you instead of being a water cough sitting at the corner with an electronic gadget and refusing to even drink water by himself self. We have to create an environment where we build outdoor activities for our children and make sure they exercise enough so stay healthy.

Choose to Drink Water -
Water is the basic necessity of life, and make sure to drink water when you or the child is thirsty. Canned Fizzy drinks and Flavored Juices are no less than harm to our health. Many Kids and grown ups don't drink enough water throughout the day. Healthy kids drink lots of water so that they stay fresh and hydrated. Help your kids build a healthy water drinking habit.

Choose Nutritiously Varied Food Options - Junk is going to remain Junk whether its prepared at home or made by a XYZ frozen items. Offering Nuggets, Fries and Burgers to the child when he's hungry is more than worse you could to harm your child's health. 'I never got the concept of when a child weeps and all a Mother can do is offer junk. Why? I that how busy today's parents are?' Children need to eat the right kind of food so they can stay ahead in school.

So by not only creating awareness and educating parents’ on different obstacles but also outlining proposed solutions for raising healthier kids is the aim Nestlé Pakistan is focused in right now.

With a sneak peak of the bloggers engagement featured a ‘Twitter war’, a quiz, musical chairs and Misbah pushup challenge which made the event all the more fun!
